A considerable investment has been made when purchasing a boiler, chiller, or HVAC unit.  The equipment control system is instrumental in reliable operation and extended life expectancy.  Equipment control systems also need to be able to provide ease of user control.  Critical process and systems may require detailed data logging and/or remote access.  Equipment automation and control also plays a instrumental role in unit efficiency and energy savings.  The last and most overlooked item a equipment controller or automation device must play is access to timely repair.  If your equipment has obsolete parts or extended lead times on parts or software, this could be a very costly position to be in.  The risk of extended downtime for a given piece of equipment should be evaluated by the customer.
